Following the government’s surprise announcement that Kent will be going into Tier 3, we’ve taken the decision to not reopen as planned this week.
It’s clear that the situation in Medway is much worse than expected at this stage after lockdown. In addition to this a number of our customers will be coming from outside of Kent and we appreciate that many will decide not to travel into Tier 3 given the government's advice.
Last week the chancellor declared that we are in the largest economic shock in 300 years. Over the last 9 months we’ve seen the very real effect of this on Buckmore Park. As a business we have lost over £1 million in revenue and incurred significant costs to upgrade the circuit to be ‘covid secure’. As a larger karting venue we rely on big groups and corporate events, but now we’ve had to restrict our numbers and events to be able to run safely. Winter is hard most years, add to that further restrictions and it has made it completely unviable to continue trading for now.
The Coronavirus pandemic has sent shockwaves through many industries but leisure, along with hospitality, has been one of the hardest hit. We hang on to a glimmer of hope that we will be able to reopen at some point in the future. If you have an event or booking with us we will be in touch with you shortly.
